EVENING CLASS OPTIONS

Topics in Ceramics: Living Large in the New Year

Tuesdays 6:00pm-8:30pm

It’s “Resolution Season” and this is the time of year when everyone wants to lose weight, reduce debt, minimize clutter, etc. It seems like everyone wants to make things smaller. But not you! You want to get bigger…pots. So if your New Year’s goal is to make larger pots, this is the class for you. During this session, we will work through a series of exercises and techniques designed to help you make bigger pots than you currently are making. But bigger is only better if the pot is well thrown. So class demonstrations and discussions will emphasize good and efficient throwing techniques. Potters should be able to center and pull 2lbs of clay. [Min. 6, Max. 8]

Instructor: Rae Brown
Supply Fee: $20 per bag of clay - covers glazes & firing as well. Ages 18 and up or by special permission for senior project.

Topics in Ceramics: If Only Pandora’s Box had a Better Fitting Lid

Tuesdays 6:00pm-8:30pm

Lidded vessels present technical and aesthetic challenges for all potters. However, once potters achieve mastery over well-fitting lids, they can make better teapots, sugar jars, and cookie jars. This concentrated study of lids will introduce the potter to drop-lids, cap lids, and bowl lids. The session is chocked full of tips that will help you make better fitting lids. In addition to technical instruction, aesthetic considerations for lid and knob selection will be addressed. We will also have extensive discussions regarding firing and glazing techniques. This class is project driven and will allow students to take home several functional pieces. Potters should be able to center and pull 2lbs of clay. [Min. 6, Max. 8]

Topics in Ceramics: Variations of a Theme

Tuesdays 6:00pm-8:30pm

Doritos/Cool Ranch Doritos; IPad/IPad Air; NCIS/NCIS Los Angeles/NCIS New Orleans. A good idea can be re-worked into many forms – and pottery is no different. Since there are so many great designs, why should we limit ourselves to just one? In this session, you will make 3 different chip and dip servers and 2 different dipping bowls. Each design introduces diverse throwing challenges, multiple alteration techniques, and many glazing options. There is a lot to be learned by revisiting a theme! Potters should be able to center and pull 2lbs of clay. [Min. 6, Max. 8]
